5th and 6th Grade syllabus
Class Philosophy:
Art touches nearly every aspect of the world, it’s the first thing archaeologists look for and it’s what helps to define a culture. Art is a universal language and can be found anywhere there are people. Art speaks to each of us differently and I believe it’s a relevant and significant part of your education.
Expectations:
You need:
9 x 12” bound sketchbook (plain white paper, best quality you can find)
Projects:
Grading:
5th and 6th grade students receive a credit or no credit score in encore. In order to receive credit ALL students must complete 6 projects as well as do the work in their sketchbooks.
Each project will have a rubric with the requirements and expectations in order to assess whether they receive credit or not
Band Students:
Do to the nature of the band student schedule and the limited number of times these students are in Art these students will be given a modified version of the projects which will allow them to complete each project in the amount of time given.

- Enter classroom quietly
- Begin work immediately upon entering (sketchbook, project in progress, free drawing)
- Take care of art supplies (put it back where you found it and in as good or better condition)
- BE NICE (treat one another with respect and courtesy) being funny is ok, making fun is not
- Do the best you can (even if your not good at it, give your ‘best’)
- Take Art seriously because it’s an integral part of your education and your future
You need:

- Sketchbooks
- Exploring the Elements and Principals of Design
- Elements: LINE, COLOR, TEXTURE, SHAPE, FORM, SPACE
- Principals: BALANCE, EMPHASIS, UNITY, VARIETY, PROPORTION, CONTRAST
- Sketchbooks will be turned in on Fridays for review
- Exploring the Elements and Principals of Design
- Stop motion animation (group project)
- Ceramics
- Multi-Media (2D project utilizing various art media)
- Painting
- Printmaking
- Graphic Design
